Universal Orlando Files Plans For Old Wet n’ Wild Site
The first major water park in America, Wet n’ Wild opened on International Drive in Orlando in 1977, was purchased by theme park giant Universal Parks & Resorts, and then subsequently closed in December 2016. With Volcano Bay on the way in 2 months, many have been wondering what the future of the International Drive site will be. While there has been speculation about new theme parks, we got a more clear answer this week in the form of a site plan.
Universal is planning to build 4000 hotel rooms, and multiple parking garages on the 13 acre site. You can see the plans here.
Walt Disney World Announces Mobile Ordering For Quick Service Locations
Disney announced this week that you’ll be able to order food via the My Disney Experience app when Pandora: The World of AVATAR opens this summer! The new quick service location, “Satu’li Canteen” will open with Pandora, and will give guests the ability to select their items from the menu, and pay with credit card right in the app. No more lines!
Disney also announced that other quick service locations will follow later this year!
The Egg Hunt Is Returning To Disneyland This April
Disneyland is kicking off spring with the ultimate Easter egg hunt! The Eggstravaganza returns to Disneyland Resort April 1 through April 16th! You pick up a map and stickers, for $5.99, then you set out across the property searching for the easter eggs, and applying the corresponding stickers to the map. The “eggs” will be places at Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and the Downtown Disney District!
After you have filled out your map, you can return it to a select location for a special prize! For more information, click here.
Beauty and the Beast Box Office
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” starring Emma Watson, Josh Gad, and Luke Evans is already breaking records in it’s first week. The reboot raked in an astonishing $350 million worldwide in it’s opening weekend, and broke several records. Including:
- The highest opening weekend in March.
- The largest opening for a PG rated film.
- The largest Spring opening weekend.
That’s just the beginning! For the rest of the records the film smashed, click here.
Universal Files More Patents For New Ride Technology
There has been a lot of speculation that Universal Orlando’s Dragon Challenge is headed for closure, Universal’s new patent request refreshes that speculation.
Universal filed a pair of patents this week that may hint at what’s next for the theme park’s Harry Potter attractions. The two patents, named “vehicle transportation room system and method” and “system and method for a moving puzzle theater,” both show technologies that could be used to produce more innovative Harry Potter attractions…possibly on the massive plot of land where Dragon Challenge currently sits.

Security Changes Coming To The Magic Kingdom
The security and bag-check layout has already been changed drastically at Disneyland Resort this year, now it appears Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom may follow suit.
The rumor is that security for the main influx of people will be moved back from the entrance plaza to the Transportation and Ticket Center. Each “monorail loop hotel” will get it’s own checkpoint, and the walking path from the Contemporary will also get it’s own dedicated checkpoint.
No word on whether or not security flow will change at the other three Walt Disney World theme parks. For the rest of the story, click here.
Animal Kingdom Will Have Extra Magic Hours For Pandora’s First Month
Walt Disney World is no doubt expecting massive crowds this summer when Pandora: The World of AVATAR opens to the public.
A rumor hit the internet this week that, while unconfirmed, makes a ton of sense. Sources are saying that Animal Kingdom will offer extra magic hours every night after Pandora opens, specifically May 27th to July 4th. I would imagine that this will be in addition to the EMH hours at the other parks.
No confirmation on this rumor yet, but it would certainly help with the crowds.

More Details on Nintendo Land Coming Later This Year
Universal announced Nintendo Land two years ago, but with the exception of an obvious patent for Mario Kart ride technology, we haven’t had much follow up.
Theme Park Tourist reported this week that, according to their sources, we’ll be hearing more details on Universal Orlando’s upcoming Nintendo themed land in 2017, possibly as soon as this summer.
After the heated discussion about adults at Disney in episode 1, Simon is determined to take our parks back with the hashtag #DisneyAsAnAdult. Use it!
